While many of the most renowned local architects progressively abandoned Modernism from 1970 onwards, Khoury continued to engage with Modernism as a philosophical movement rather than a style. Although he designed some of the most eloquent works of Brutalist architecture in Lebanon, which were inspired by Le Corbusier, he always rejected the label from his discourse for fear of having his architectural research assimilated to a temporary trend, according to his son Bernard Khoury.
