Interdesign Building

While many of the most renowned local architects progressively abandoned Modernism from 1970 onwards, Khoury continued to engage with Modernism as a philosophical movement rather than a style. Although he designed some of the most eloquent works of Brutalist architecture in Lebanon, which were inspired by Le Corbusier, he always rejected the label from his discourse for fear of having his architectural research assimilated to a temporary trend, according to his son Bernard Khoury. Ministry of Defense

The "Ministry of Defence" Building was designed by Andre Wogenscky in partnership with Maurice Hindie (Lebanese counterpart). They are both architects inspired and influenced by Le Corbusier. Execution of the building (1965 - 1968). The Government wanted to design the Ministry with marks of "traditional Lebanese Architecture", however, the architects in charge thought of giving what is called Lebanese Architecture, a modern interpretation. The ensemble presents a composition of straight blocks held on stilts. The blocks are connected with shaded paths covered by mushroom slabs opening up on a view. The facades are covered with T-shape shades that from afar give the same impact of arcades part of the traditional Lebanese architecture. On the far left, lies the office of the Minister and on the far right lies an ovoid structure which is the conference area. The ovoid structure is bathing in water and is mirrored in it.
