Stadttheater
The Theater in St. Gallen was constructed between 1964 and 1968. Zurich architect Claude Paillard designed it as a sculpturally modeled exposed concrete structure on a hexagonal floor plan. The building’s space spirals upward from the entrance floor around the auditorium, with hexagonal spatial modules with different aspect ratios repeated on the various floors. The countless steps in the floor and ceiling make the movement in this concrete sculpture visible both inside and outside the building façade.
