Telecommunications Center (Fernmeldeamt)

The Telecommunications Center has been called an “eyesore” in the past and is another example of the lack of appreciation for Brutalist architecture in the general public as well as in the press. The building has been empty since Germany's reunification. Renovations seem to have never been debated. However the building is a rare example for the sculptural treatment of exposed precast concrete in the GDR, contrasting the dominating sober, anonymous design language of the time. Precisely because of this special position the building in particular is worth of protection.
