| Condition | Although officially recognised as a building with high architectonic value that should be protected, the communal authorities are planning to demolish and replace it with a building suited to the contemporary nursing requirements within the next years. Due to this specific need, the cantonal heritage department resigned to put it under protection. Different voices are trying to convince the actors in charge to look for an alternative solution. Because of this the authorities changed the open competition to allow renovations of the existing building alongside a completely new structure. |

The Grossfeld Retirement Home, designed in 1965 by Walter Rüssli, is one of the few remnants of a 60s straight-forward brutalism in central Switzerland. It consists of several housing wings, common rooms, a café and a chapel. The sculptural volumetry and the exposed concrete facades are in comparatively good condition. It has been and is still used as a habitation for the elderly, but unfortunately the 60s floor plans do not comply with contemporary nursing standards anymore, which makes it unsuitable for a programmatic continuation as a retirement home.
