Karstadt Department Store

The building was constructed on the site of an older Karstadt building to meet demands for larger sales areas as well as parking space due to increasing car ownership. Owing to the bunker-style look of the building, the reception was controversial from the very start. The façade is dominated by massive corrugated concrete panels, angled at top and bottom and intersected by brickwork walls. Written by Amelie Rogall and Boris Dorau
