| Condition | The building is heritage listed since 2018, in a very good condition and shows no signs of damage. There has been no need for renovation so far, apart from some trouble with the roof, which showed to be not perfectly impermeable, when rain was blown from a certain direction. The problem was fixed. |
| Architects | Gottfried Böhm |
| Construction Date | 1969 |
After having designed the Pilgrimage Cathedral at Neviges, Böhm was asked to build this small church in Alfter. Its cast-in-place concrete body resembles either a mountain or a medieval castle. The roofing is made from tin plates. It is dominated by the steeple, that rises from street level below the church’s ground and contains an open stairwell with an intriguing changing curvature. The interior features a complex ceiling with protruding edges and small windows. The floor paved with brick-colored tiles. Written by Amelie Rogall and Boris Dorau
