The Church of Our Lady of Sorrows in Łódź was designed by Leszek Łukoś and Ludwik Mackiewicz in 1972. The construction started in 1973 and the first mass was said in 1976, although the building was still in basic state. The bell tower was raised in 1980s. The complex consisting of a church and parish premises is one of the fine examples of post-conciliar temples raised in Poland. The church has a hexagonal plan and can accomodate 3000 people on two levels (upper church and lower church). The structure is based on reinforced concrete frame filled with bricks.
