The Jurong Townhall, designed as a landmark and opened in 1975, is a symbol of the success of Singapore's industrialization program in Jurong. Two exposed concrete blocks in a prominent hilly location are connected by bridges and thus evoke the association of a 50-meter-long ship. The outward curving shape gives the building its characteristic sculptural form and also serves as a sun shield.
