Theaterwerkstätten

Situated directly next to the Zwinger, one of the most famous baroque buildings in Germany, the new theater workshops planned at the end of the 1970s had to assert themselves against the surrounding architecture. The workshop complex, consisting of a head building, two halls and a magazine, creates a contrast towards the older surroundings with its modern, partly futuristic design. Characteristics of this new construction are the copper-coated windows and the façade elements made of concrete, which are designed in a specially developed "crepe paper technique". Different variations of the surface structures, projecting and recessed parts of the buildings and the embedding in a park area form a remarkable ensemble.
