“[…]To resolve a constant problem of flooding due to a low-lying site and frequent rainfall in Nangang, the ground floor has been spared for Corbusian pilotis through which the building volume is lifted, allowing a space for parking and circulation underneath. It meanwhile conveyed a sense of modernity giving the appearance of lightness and floating above the land form. To maintain ventilation and meet different functional requirements, the roof and exterior walls were constructed in a double-wall system. […]for spatial configuration, a lecture hall was placed at the center surrounded by four distinct volumes with programs of research units, seminar rooms, offices and a library composed by three-dimensional integration. […]Moreover, the detail in the building expressed careful selection of commonly-used materials in Taiwan such as red brick.[…]” Excerpt from Shao-Yu Huang’s text for the SOSBrutalism exhibition at the Jut Art Museum in Taipei,Taiwan (2020)
