The City Hall of La Crosse is six stories tall with an estimated height of 76.47 feet. The building contains the city council, the mayor’s office and the La Crosse Police Department. With the construction design, the architect Harry Schroeder wanted to create a symbol of progressive government. The building replaced the old Victorian style city hall when voters in 1966 approved a referendum to destroy the old one for a modern one. The cost at the time was $2.8 million.
