| Condition | After almost five decades of operation, the signs of age on the precast concrete elements are only cosmetic. In the coming years the district administration will move into the neighbouring high-rise project "Vienna TwentyTwo" being developed by ARE and SIGNA. After the move it is planned to demolish the district center at Schrödinger Platz, which is owned by the City of Vienna. Special thanks to Lukas Vejnik and Johann Gallis |

The district center Kagran by Leber und Mathá goes back to Roland Rainer's planning concept from 1962. In the spirit of Vienna's development into a polycentric city, new subcenters were planned, following the example of the historical suburbs. At the interface between Wagramer Strasse and Donaustadtstrasse, an urban center with stores, a market, an office building, a secondary school, a cinema, a hall and other buildings for community and consumption were to be created. In a first phase, the district office with adjacent hall building as well as an adult education center with a row of stores have been built. Large-format exposed aggregate concrete elements in prefabricated construction characterize the external appearance of the complex. Footpath access, roofed outdoor spaces and passages for cyclists create open areas with varied qualities for passers-by. "Team 10" sounds softly in the brutalist building.
