| Condition | In 1977, the Domnick's made an inheritance contract with the state of Baden-Württemberg, which led to the establishment of the state-owned Domnick Foundation after Ottomar's death in 1989 and Greta's in 1991. Even before that, in 1982, the house and the collection had been entered in Baden-Württemberg's register of monuments as an entity of special significance due to their extraordinary and highly qualitative unity of architecture and art collection. |

The house of the Domnick Collection is located in the Alp landscape far outside of Nürtingen. It was commissioned by the neurologists and psychologists Ottomar and Greta Domnick, who had been building up a large art collection of abstract painting since the 1940s. Architect Paul Stohrer was in charge of building a "museum to live in" for them. So, a one-story, flat-roofed skeleton building was erected over a 1000 m² square floor plan in a grid system of seven x seven modules. Exposed concrete was used for the load-bearing parts, brick masonry for the space-forming wall panels, and white exposed aggregate concrete slabs for the floors. The house stands on a shallow slope. The groups of rooms—entrance zone, collection rooms, living areas—are stepped from north to south according to the slope of the terrain. In the area of the art collection, the steps provide a small stage platform for concerts and performances. Inner courtyards break up the complex and bring daylight into the exhibition rooms. The residential part opens up to the landscape. The house is surrounded by a spacious garden area with sculptures.
