The "Haus der Kirche" was the former administrative headquarters of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in the State of Hamburg. The high-rise building in reinforced concrete skeleton construction measured 44.03m divided into 12 floors and was accompanied by flatter wing buildings. In its external appearance, the building was described by the Denkmalverein Hamburg as a "large, archaic-looking sculpture of stone and concrete" due to its monumentality and the use of precisely joined exposed aggregate concrete slabs. In addition, the building was distinguished by a number of details, such as the refined transition across corners from side elements to parapets, and the subtly applied sun visors and skylight bands above the window strips. On the first floor, the building was partially elevated with thin round concrete columns.
