In respect of materiality, K.H. Chau skillfully composed a spirited rendering of colour and texture. Majority of the finishes employs the hammer dressed ribbed concrete, whereas the core protruding from the roof is treated with external plaster. The fairfaced concrete sunshade louvers on the exterior thus together created a complimentary harmony. Chau then finished the library’s pedestal in the same cobble stone (a feature Robert Fan adopted for Chung Chi College) used across the campus, introducing natural colours and patterns into the picture that is at once locally familiar and startlingly new. The conglomeration of materials in the Elizabeth Luce Moore Library celebrates the truthful demonstration of natural qualities and means of construction of each material.
