Luther Church (Lutherkirche)
The building is a replacement for the neo-gothic church at this place which was destroyed during WWII. Only the belfry remained. Like a huge sculpture the monolithic concrete building fits into the park of the Altstädter Friedhof. Church and community center are connected by arcades reminiscent of a cloister. In the middle there is a void where the neo-gothic nave was situated, thus creating a quiet courtyard, which is shielded from nearby road traffic. The nave is decorated with colored concrete sculptures by Emil Kiess, the chapel’s windows are designed by Sigrid von Liebenstein. Written by Torsten Ahlers
